Is a HELOC or bridge loan better for buying before selling?

Last updated: August 2026

Quick Answer

A HELOC is generally lower-cost, but it must be opened before your current home is listed for sale — most lenders won't approve one once a home is on the market. A bridge loan can be arranged later in the process, including after listing, but typically costs more.
